In 20 years, the number of lawyers in Guangzhou has reached 17,956. What are your views on the profession of lawyer?

I often interact with lawyers, and the main exchanges are about the company's cases. My friends don't know, maybe they have forgotten. Let me talk about my views on lawyers:

First, lawyers have high social status and uneven income.

Over the past 10 years, with the acceleration of the country’s legal system construction and the improvement of people’s awareness of rights protection and legal awareness, the social status of lawyers has become higher and higher. Many units now also hire professional lawyers as legal advisors. Ordinary people like to consult familiar or unfamiliar lawyers when they have any disputes.

Among the lawyers I know, there are law firm assistants who have just graduated a few years ago, and there are also law firm bosses who have worked for many years; the assistants who have just graduated have an annual salary of tens of thousands, and the lawyer tycoons have an annual salary of one million or even millions.

Second, professionalization of lawyers is more important.

As far as I know, most law firms practice a partnership system, and some will turn into a company system when they get bigger. They all set up law firms to assemble personnel according to their own professional directions. Some law firms only handle one large category of cases. For example, Shanghai Jianwei Law Firm is a law firm with infrastructure, construction engineering, and real estate as its main service areas. Their lawyers are mainly composed of lawyers in this major and field; some small law firms may have lawyers in any professional direction and accept All cases. Some do criminal law, some do civil law, or they do labor law alone.

Among the lawyers I know, the most powerful ones all work in one direction, such as only doing civil or criminal work; or only doing civil labor disputes or only civil engineering contract disputes, etc.

Third, lawyers are tired and things are complicated.

Most lawyers are not as laid-back as they appear in the TV series "Elite Lawyers", with assistants taking care of everything. Most attorneys have a lot of work to do from the prosecution of a case to the conclusion of the final case. It not only involves drafting and responding to the complaint, but also requires multiple communications with the parties, opposing lawyers and judges behind the scenes, and some even spend a lot of energy to understand the case in depth.

If some lawyers are corporate legal advisors, they will also help the company review contracts, issue lawyer letters, and provide legal training. Some companies like to consult lawyers regardless of major issues. Such legal consultants are actually very tiring.

Lawyers cannot make mistakes. If they make a mistake, it may cause huge disaster, not only harming the interests of the client, but also ending their legal career. For example, Zhao Xu in "Elite Lawyer" made a mistake at work, causing the law firm to pay more than 100,000 yuan in compensation. This also happens in reality.
