A detention center is a place where the public security organs detain specific persons for a short period of time in accordance with the law.
Detained persons include: criminal detainees. Criminal detention is a coercive measure used by the public security organs to restrict the personal freedom of criminals or major suspects in accordance with the law in emergency situations. Its purpose is to prevent current criminals or major suspects who should be arrested from evading investigation, trial or continuing to engage in criminal activities. The public security organ must produce a detention certificate when detaining a person, and ask the person to sign or stamp the detention certificate.
After detention, unless there are circumstances that hinder the investigation or cannot be notified, the reason for detention and the place of detention shall be notified to the detained person’s family or unit within 24 hours. Detainees should be questioned within 24 hours of detention. If the detention is found to be unjustified, the detainee must be released immediately and a certificate of release must be issued.
