Is there an opportunity for mediation before a criminal case is pronounced?

There are still opportunities for mediation in criminal cases before sentencing, but mediation is civil compensation in criminal incidental civil liability. A criminal case is a public prosecution case and cannot be mediated.

However, if the civil compensation is successfully settled through mediation and the other party mediates, it may be considered as a mitigating circumstance of criminal punishment.

Public prosecution refers to the litigation activities in which the people's procuratorate files a complaint with the people's court against the criminal suspect's criminal behavior, asking the court to determine the facts of the crime through trial and punish the criminal.
