Judicial examination subjects include jurisprudence, constitutional law, criminal law, criminal procedure law, civil law, commercial law, civil procedure law (including arbitration system), administrative law and administrative procedure law, judicial system and legal professional ethics.

Judicial examination:

The predecessor of the law examination was the National Judicial Examination (hereinafter referred to as the Judicial Examination). The examination content includes current legal provisions, legal professional ethics, etc. Persons who serve as judges, prosecutors, lawyers, notaries, legal advisors, arbitrators (legal affairs) and government departments engaged in review of administrative penalty decisions, administrative reconsideration, and administrative rulings must pass the legal professional qualification examination.

Since the reform of the law examination, the annual passing rate has remained at 10%-15%. It mainly tests the legal professional knowledge and ability of the candidates to engage in legal profession. The contents of the National Unified Legal Professional Qualification Examination include: theoretical law, applied law, current legal provisions, legal practice and legal professional ethics.

Examination time and registration procedures for the judicial examination:

Examination time:

The national judicial examination is generally held on the third weekend of September every year; among them, The 2018 National Judicial Examination was held on September 22. The registration period for the objective test of the 2019 National Judicial Examination is from June 5 to June 20, and the examination dates are August 31 and September 1. The online registration and confirmation period for the subjective exam is from September 7th to 11th, and the exam time is 103.

Application procedures:

The registration conditions and items for the National Judicial Examination are announced in the Ministry of Justice announcement and related documents. According to the Ministry of Justice’s announcement and relevant documents, local judicial administrative agencies will determine and announce the specific local registration time, location, method and related matters, and announce it to the public in a timely manner.

When announcing the registration matters, local judicial administrative agencies should clearly require applicants to register at the registration location designated by the judicial administrative agency of the city (prefecture, state, league) where their household registration is located. People who work or study outside their residence can register at the place where they work or study.
