Reflections on the movie Witness

"Just because they look unusual and abnormal doesn't mean they are inferior." —— Yang Chungao

Originally, I was watching a suspense detective movie. I didn't expect to be moved by the innocent girl Lin Zhiyou and the just and humane lawyer Yang Chunhao, and my mood was hard to calm down.

? The film revolves around a nanny murdering her employer, and Lin Zhiyou, an autistic girl under 16, witnessed the murder process. The hero, Yang Chunhao, is a single lawyer. When he was young, he enthusiastically defended democracy and human rights, but in middle age, he was heavily in debt because he guaranteed his friends. He also envies the life of the company's partners. By chance, he was assigned to the nanny murder case. As the defense lawyer of the defendant's nanny, according to the information collected from the conversation with the nanny, he thought that the employer was likely to commit suicide and the witness was autistic, so subjectively, he thought that what the girl saw and understood would be biased and could not be used as direct evidence to sentence the defendant. To this end, he began to understand the autistic people, began to contact the witness Lin Zhiyou, and began to try to prove that the testimony was not established through the shortcomings of this special group. As a lawyer, this is understandable, and with his efforts, he also got the opportunity to become a partner and become a "high society." But with the deepening of the investigation, Yang Chunhao found that he began to trust this girl more and more, perhaps because of the special abilities that autistic people often have, such as calculation, memory, super listening and so on. But I think it's more about those innocent eyes and the conclusion that autistic people don't lie.

At the end of the film, the witness Lin Zhiyou's testimony is accurate. Yang Chunhao, who should have been the defendant's lawyer, has been making favorable proofs for Lin Zhiyou, so that the murderer was finally brought to justice and gained full trust, friendship and love at the expense of losing his lawyer qualification, which made the girl's simple idea that "lawyers are good people".

In fact, after watching the movie, I found that the murder case on the Ming line is no longer important. The deeper level is to think about how to treat special people and how to prevent them from being discriminated against. The so-called "normal people" presented by these films are so abnormal in front of "special people" like Lin Zhiyou. "Normal people" are greedy, hypocritical, selfish, full of lies and unscrupulous, while the wise friends they despise are sincere, simple, brave and caring. Even if betrayed by their best friends, they still choose to trust others. Maybe others find her hard to contact, but how many people really want to walk into their world and look at them with understanding rather than criticism? At the end of the film, Zhiyou went to a special school and said to Yang Chunhao, "Now you can finally stop pretending to be normal." After listening to this, she felt very sad. She worked so hard just to make herself look like the people around her, but people around her ignored her efforts ten times and one hundred times more than ordinary people, stared at her abnormally, and attacked and laughed at her. There is nothing wrong with people who work hard. What is wrong is that people around you can't see her efforts.

At the beginning, Mr. Yang's words were deeply imprinted in my mind. Born as human beings, we are not qualified to laugh at those who look special, because in some ways, the so-called ordinary people are not even qualified to compare with them. What we need may not be that everyone looks the same, but more care, understanding, tolerance and sincere love.
