Can court hearings be broadcast live?

Legal Analysis: Yes. In order to implement the principle of open trials, expand the effect of legal publicity, regulate the live broadcast and recording activities of the People's Courts, and combine the actual work of the People's Courts, these regulations are formulated.

Legal basis: "Regulations of the Municipalities Directly Under the Central Government of the Supreme People's Court on Live Recording and Live Broadcasting of Trial Activities of People's Courts."

Article 1: People's courts shall abide by the principles of legality, truthfulness, and standardization of the pictures, texts, audios, and videos of public court hearings broadcast live through public media systems such as television and the Internet.

Article 2 The People’s Court may choose cases that are of high public concern, have a great social impact, and have legal publicity and educational significance for public trials to conduct live broadcasts and recordings. Live broadcast or recording is not allowed for the following cases:

(1) Cases involving state secrets, business secrets, personal privacy, minor crimes, etc. that are not heard in public according to law;

(2) Criminal cases where the procuratorate has clearly stated that live broadcast or recording of the court trial is not appropriate and there are legitimate reasons;

(3) Civil and administrative cases where the parties have clearly stated that live broadcast or recording of the court trial is not appropriate and there are legitimate reasons. Cases;

(4) Other cases that are not suitable for live broadcast or recording in court.

Article 3 The People’s Court shall conduct live broadcast and recording of court hearings in strict accordance with the public scope stipulated by law. If it involves issues such as minors, victim or witness protection, and other content that is not suitable for disclosure, corresponding technical processing should be carried out.
