Supplementary answer: you can defend yourself properly, but excessive defense will cause serious injury to the other party and you will bear certain criminal responsibility in law. This is stipulated in the criminal law. Excessive defense will be handled as appropriate, and the punishment will be heavier if it is not defended.
You belong to self-defense, but obviously your excessive defense has hurt the other side. If the other party constitutes an excessive defense injury, you will have to bear the punishment of "excessive defense" and pay civil compensation. If not, you only need to pay civil compensation.
