Marriage registration is a procedure to make marriage legal and effective. Those who have gone through the formalities of marriage registration and obtained a marriage certificate are legally married and protected by law. If there is no marriage formalities, including the wedding has been held, the two have lived together and enjoy the property, these are not recognized by law.

Article 1046 of the Civil Code of People's Republic of China (PRC) * * * Marriage shall be entirely voluntary, and it is forbidden for either party to force the other party, and no organization or individual may interfere. Article 1047 of the Civil Code of People's Republic of China (PRC) stipulates that the age of marriage shall not be earlier than 22 for men and 20 for women. Article 1048 of the Civil Code of People's Republic of China (PRC) prohibits the marriage of lineal blood relatives or collateral blood relatives within three generations. Article 1049 of the Civil Code of People's Republic of China (PRC) requires both men and women to apply for marriage registration in person at the marriage registration office. Those who meet the requirements of this law shall be registered and issued a marriage certificate. The marriage relationship is established when the marriage registration is completed. Those who have not registered for marriage shall re-register.
