Organ shortage is the bottleneck of organ transplantation in China. Due to the lack of voluntary donations from citizens, organs of death row inmates have become the main source of organ transplantation.
Many patients waiting for transplantation, who will transplant first? Organized by the Ministry of Health and the Red Cross, China will soon establish an organ transplant response system, including a recipient management system, a waiting organ list management system, a donor management system and an organ allocation/matching system. The fairness of the system will be supervised by the Ministry of Health.
The Regulations on Human Organ Transplantation should be released this year. The highlight of the regulations is the formation of an "organ donation system in line with national conditions".
The Ministry of Health will strengthen the supervision of organ transplantation. With the establishment of China's organ donation system, some experts predict that in the next three to five years, China's current dependence on organs of condemned prisoners will be greatly changed.
