Columbus and vitamin c

On a voyage, Columbus's crew got scurvy. In order not to drag everyone down, the seriously ill crew took the initiative to stay on a nearby desert island. As a result, after Columbus's fleet returned smoothly, it was found that the crew were not dead. After Columbus returned to Italy, he told the doctor about this miracle. Later, it was found that the seriously ill crew were eating wild fruits on that desert island. This wild fruit contains vitamin C, which saved the lives of the crew.
