Hankou, one of the three towns in Wuhan, is a typical commercial town, which was formed in the middle of Ming Dynasty and developed in Qing Dynasty, and is known as "the first prosperous place in Chu".
1842, the Sino-British Treaty of Tianjin was signed, and Hankou was opened to the outside world. With the continuous influx of foreign businessmen, the largest town in the middle reaches of the Yangtze River has also entered the fast lane of modernization, showing a deformed prosperity.

Tongji Gate in Hankou 1900. Among the three towns in Wuhan, Hankou was built the latest. Because there is Hanshui River in the south as a natural barrier, only the city wall was built in the north, and no complete encirclement was formed.

St Alexander's Church, also known as Alexander's Church, is located in Poyang Street, Jiang 'an District, Wuhan. This church was built in 1893, which was donated by Russian tea merchants in Hankou at that time. Because of the circular decoration at the top, it is vividly called onion church. Now the building is still there, but the "onion" at the top is gone.
