Honghe College, formerly known as Mengzi Teachers College, was founded in 1978. In April 2003, with the approval of the Ministry of Education, Mengzi Teachers College and Yunnan Radio and TV University Honghe Branch merged to form Honghe College. It is a provincial-level comprehensive undergraduate college in Yunnan Province, and the school implements a "province-state-oriented" management system.
