Since 2009, aerial photography has mostly used digital aerial cameras to obtain panchromatic, true-color and color infrared image data. At the same time, the center scanned and digitized most aerial photos before 2009. The center has archived 543TB of digital results, covering an area of about 3.56 million square kilometers.

Article 5
_ National Basic Geographic Information Center is responsible for the preservation, maintenance, provision and socialized service of national basic geographic information data. Surveying and mapping data management units authorized by the competent departments of surveying and mapping of provinces, autonomous regions and municipalities directly under the Central Government shall be responsible for the custody, maintenance, provision and socialized service of national basic geographic information data within their respective administrative areas in accordance with the division of business. The national basic geographic information center and the surveying and mapping data management unit authorized by the surveying and mapping departments of provinces, autonomous regions and municipalities directly under the Central Government are called providers, and their business division and the scope of providing national basic geographic information data shall be separately stipulated by the surveying and mapping administrative departments of the State Council.
