Longhai Railway is the most important railway trunk line that runs through the east, middle and west of China, that is, East China, Central China and Northwest China. It is also an important part of the new Eurasian continental bridge from Lianyungang in China in the Pacific Ocean to Rotterdam in the Netherlands in the Atlantic Ocean. The main cities along the Longhai Railway from east to west are Lianyungang, Xuzhou, Shangqiu, Kaifeng, Zhengzhou, Luoyang, Sanmenxia, Weinan, Xi 'an, Baoji, Tianshui and Lanzhou.
With the development of economy and the improvement of people's living standards, the railway passenger and freight volume has increased greatly, and the transportation capacity of Longhai Railway tends to be saturated. On the basis of the original Longhai Line, a new passenger dedicated line will be built in parallel, with a design speed of 250-350 km/h. The Zhengzhou-Xi 'an section (Zhengzhou-Xi 'an high-speed railway) will be put into use on February 6, 2000, and the An-Baoji section (Xibao passenger dedicated line) will be put into use on February 28, 2000. The Xuzhou-Zhengzhou section (Zhengzhou-Xuzhou high-speed railway) was officially opened on September 16, the Baoji-Lanzhou section (Baolan Passenger Dedicated Line) is under construction, and the Lianyungang-Xuzhou section (Xu Lian Passenger Dedicated Line) has been included in the planning.

It goes straight along Gao Qiao Long Tunnel. Its completion and opening to traffic is of great significance to the development of western China.
