On July 12, 2022, Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security, China issued the "People's Republic of China (PRC) Occupational Classification Ceremony (2022 Edition)" (draft for public comment), and the occupation of rehabilitation doctors changed from the second type of professional and technical personnel to the fourth type of social production service and life service personnel, becoming rehabilitation therapists.

With the release of the 2022 version of the public consultation draft, great changes have taken place in the occupational classification in the health field in China.

For example, occupations such as internal medicine nurses, health workers, respiratory therapists, birth defect prevention consultants, elderly ability assessors, and rehabilitation assistive technology consultants have been added. These occupational groups belong to the category of health, sports and leisure service personnel, and the "rehabilitation therapists" that caused heated discussion this time have also been moved into them.

Second, the definition

Rehabilitation therapists promote patients' rehabilitation through physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy, rehabilitation engineering and traditional rehabilitation.

Responsible for receiving patients' rehabilitation consultation, functional examination and evaluation, arranging short-term rehabilitation training programs, recommending some qualified patients to buy and use intelligent rehabilitation equipment, carrying out long-term passive stretching exercise, preventing muscle atrophy, promoting or maintaining patients' functional recovery and other related treatments.

Professional requirements:

1, education and training

College degree or above in rehabilitation technology. At present, it is a "rehabilitation therapist" and "rehabilitation therapist" qualification certificate issued by the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Human Resources.

2. Work experience

Familiar with human anatomy knowledge, have certain basic medical knowledge, master various rehabilitation techniques skillfully, be able to apply modern rehabilitation instruments, and be able to clarify the therapeutic functions, precautions, indications and contraindications of instruments; Have a high sense of responsibility, good professional ethics, enough patience and physical strength, strong comprehensive analysis ability and keen insight.

Third, career development.

There are less than 20,000 rehabilitation technicians in China, among which there are only more than 5,000 rehabilitation therapists, most of whom are transferred from neurology, nursing, Chinese medicine and other disciplines.

Only 700 rehabilitation therapists are trained in China every year. The lack of rehabilitation talents is the bottleneck restricting the development of rehabilitation medicine in China. It is estimated that by 20 15, China will need at least 350,000 rehabilitation technicians.
