The spacious building is quiet, but if you listen carefully, you may hear the sound of millions of cells dividing. It's dark outside, but it's brightly lit here Under the LED lamp, rows of mature rice are covered with ears. The pillars of this spacious hall are decorated with tomatoes and peppers, and the fruits are gorgeous. Upstairs, large pieces of steak and chicken breast are packaged into semi-finished products without blood stains on the automatic production line and sent to the cold storage. In the morning market the next morning, they were the most popular items on the meat counter for housewives. The whole building is empty. In the general control room of the basement, a supercomputer tirelessly takes care of everything at night, and the numbers on various dashboards keep beating-this is a late night in 2058. The location is an agricultural skyscraper in Beijing.
Where is the breakfast tomorrow?
The concept of agricultural skyscraper was originally put forward by Dickson Despommel, an environmentalist at Columbia University. According to his theory, invest 200 million dollars to build a 30-story skyscraper, grow fruits and vegetables in it, raise livestock, and produce enough food for 50 thousand people. Paris SOA Architects Studio, Seattle Architecture Company and Mitterrand Company designed the ideal three-dimensional perspective view of agricultural buildings. American architects proposed to set aside an urban agricultural center in downtown Seattle to build a small-scale vertical farm, and in 2007, they won the Realistic Architectural Challenge Design Award of the American Green Building Council in Casca.
For example, if an agricultural skyscraper lands in populous China, it will be built in Beijing. Future urban planners can choose a densely populated urban area and plan one or two places to build such agricultural buildings, which can not only provide residents with the freshest vegetables and fruits, but also become a garbage and sewage treatment station in the city, and concentrate a large area of land as an agricultural factory in the suburbs with relatively rich land resources. If this scheme is feasible, then in today's Chaoyang District, near the Jianguomen business circle with many high-rise buildings, we may see a super agricultural building. The traffic here is convenient and the population flow is large. If the agricultural building is built here, it will be convenient for commuters to buy fresh vegetables by the way, and at the same time, they can concentrate on treating the domestic sewage of large commercial and civil buildings around them, and deliver clean water and lighting electricity for them.
Science and technology support agricultural skyscrapers
We can imagine that this 53-story skyscraper (3 floors underground) covers an area of 20,000 square meters (about equivalent to a standard stadium) with a construction area of 6,543,800 square meters. The second and third floors underground are parking lots, the underground 1 floor is the general control room and power distribution room where supercomputers are installed, and the 50th floor of the main building is a fully enclosed computer-controlled farm production area. The podium on the north side is a large fresh supermarket, urban farm theme park and flavor restaurant. In the cylindrical main building as an agricultural production area, fully transparent external materials can make daylight more abundant during the day. In the planting area, the whole floor is divided into several working areas like farmland. Highly automated, ecological, pollution-free and energy-saving are the key words here. The temperature, humidity, air pressure and light in each production area of the agricultural building can be seen at a glance in the main control room, and the detailed files of each numbered crop from germination to factory sales are stored. After mastering the preference of crop growth, computer-controlled led lights can provide various special bands of light for different crops to ensure the chloroplast of crops to run at full speed. For the crops in the "growth workshop", all the crops are cultivated in organic ecological soilless culture, and the crops are fixed on the substrate with solid fertilizer instead of soil, and only water is needed for drip irrigation. Electronic eyes monitor the contents of water, sugar, nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium in crops and decide the picking time. If this workshop produces healthy agricultural products rich in certain trace elements, such as chromium-rich corn, the computer will accurately provide nutrient solution containing trivalent chromium for corn seedlings, and monitor the chromium content in the plants at any time to ensure that every corn cob is healthy when leaving the factory without heavy metal pollution.
