Zhejiang University, referred to as "Zhejiang University" for short, is a sub-ministerial organization directly under the Ministry of Education of People's Republic of China (PRC) and directly managed by the central government, ranking as "Project 2 1 1", "Project 985" and "World-class University and First-class Discipline". It has been selected as a member of Nine Universities Alliance (C9), Pacific Rim University Alliance, World University Alliance and China University Presidents Association, and is one of the earliest new institutions of higher learning founded by China people. It is a comprehensive national key university and was once called "Oriental Cambridge" by Joseph Needham, a famous British scholar.

Qiushi College, the predecessor of Zhejiang University, was founded in 1897 and named as National Zhejiang University in 1928. 1937 Zhejiang university moved westward, running schools in Zunyi and Meitan, Guizhou, and 1946 moved back to Hangzhou in the autumn. 1952, when the departments of colleges and universities in China were adjusted, some departments of Zhejiang University were placed under the China Academy of Sciences and other universities, and the main parts were reorganized into several colleges and universities in Hangzhou, which later developed into the original Zhejiang University, Hangzhou University, Zhejiang Agricultural University and Zhejiang Medical University respectively. 1998, four universities with the same roots merged to form the new Zhejiang University.

In the course of 120 years, Zhejiang University has always adhered to the fine tradition of "seeking truth and innovation" as its motto, taking the world as its own responsibility and relying on truth, and gradually formed a group of Zhejiang University people who are "diligent, Xiu De, discerning and incorruptible", sharing the same values and "eclectic, inspiring truth, goodness and beauty, developing people's wisdom and building the motherland"

The spirit of Zhejiang University-all rivers run into the sea, enlightening truth, opening virtue and founding the country by the ancestors.

* * * The core word of the same values-diligent Xiu De, distinguish the truth.
