The school was founded on 1960. 1980 Guilin Institute of Electronic Technology was established with the approval of the State Council. In 2006, it was renamed Guilin University of Electronic Technology. The school belongs to Fourth Ministry of machinery industry, Ministry of Electronics Industry, Ministry of Machinery and Electronics Industry, China Electronic Industry Corporation and Ministry of Information Industry.
