The school was formed by the merger of the former Shanghai Lixin Accounting Institute and the former shanghai finance university. Shanghai Lixin Accounting Institute was formerly Lixin Accounting Institute, which was founded in 1928 and renamed as Lixin Accounting Institute in 1992. In 2003, it was upgraded to an undergraduate college and renamed Shanghai Lixin Accounting Institute.
