SWOT analysis (SWOT analysis)

Next, we will use the SWOT model to further analyze ourselves. On this basis, you will have a systematic understanding of yourself, thus laying a solid foundation for your accurate positioning and correct choice.

SWOT analysis is one of the commonly used methods in competition analysis. SWOT method is used for selection analysis, that is, the main internal strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats closely related to you are listed through investigation, and arranged in a matrix form in a certain order, and then various factors are analyzed by using the idea of system analysis, and a series of corresponding conclusions (such as countermeasures) are drawn.

This research method was first put forward by a management professor at the University of San Francisco in the early 1980s. Prior to this, as early as the 1960s, some people put forward the internal strengths and weaknesses, external opportunities and threats involved in SWOT analysis, but only analyzed them in isolation, and SWOT method matched these seemingly independent factors with systematic ideas for comprehensive analysis. Using this method is helpful for people to comprehensively, systematically and accurately study the organization's situation, formulate development strategies and plans, and the corresponding development plans or countermeasures.

SWOT analysis mainly includes the following aspects:

1, analysis environment

Use the three methods we introduced earlier to analyze the current environmental factors, namely, external environmental factors and internal capacity factors.

2. Build a SWOT matrix.

The SWOT matrix is constructed by sorting the factors obtained in the survey according to their priority or influence degree. As shown in Figure 2-4.

Figure 2-4 SWOT analysis matrix

In this process, those factors that have a direct, important, massive, urgent and long-term impact on your life choice and long-term development should be given priority, while those factors that are indirect, secondary, few, not urgent and short-term should be ranked behind.

Step 3 make a strategy

After completing the analysis of internal and external factors and the construction of SWOT matrix, we can formulate corresponding strategies to give full play to our strengths, overcome our weaknesses and use opportunities to resolve threats. By using the comprehensive analysis method of system analysis, the arranged environmental factors are matched and combined, and a series of optional countermeasures suitable for them are obtained. These countermeasures include:

(1) minimum and minimum game (WT game), that is, consider the weakness factor and threat factor, in order to try to minimize these factors. For example, if your grades are not good, you should study harder in the future. If your social skills are poor, you should take part in more social activities.

(2) Minimum-maximum game (WO game), that is, focusing on the factors of weakness and opportunity, with the aim of trying to minimize weakness and maximize opportunity. For example, although the major in your school is generally cold, there is a strong demand for compound talents in the job market at present, and the weak factors in this area have little influence-if your comprehensive quality is good enough.

(3) Max-min game (ST game), that is, focusing on advantages and threats, aiming at maximizing advantages and minimizing threats. For example, there is great pressure to take the postgraduate entrance examination now. Although you have not reached the standard of our school, your comprehensive quality is still good. At this time, if you apply for graduate students from other schools decisively, you may receive unexpected results.

(4) Maximizing and maximizing countermeasures (SO countermeasures), that is, focusing on advantages and opportunities, with the aim of trying to maximize these two factors. For example, if you have a good English foundation, you can continue to strengthen this advantage in your future efforts and make it the most competitive factor in your various qualities. This should be the most important of the four strategies, because many disadvantages are difficult to make up. Instead of focusing on lengthening the short board, it is better to highlight the advantages.

How to choose a university is related to your future career path and life direction, so be careful. We don't encourage you to do a SWOT analysis to decide your future choice. In fact, as the environment and your own situation change, your choice should be adjusted from time to time. What is provided here is only an analysis tool. You can do a SWOT analysis every once in a while (say, once a semester) to see what changes have taken place in your strengths and weaknesses, opportunities and threats, so as to adjust your positioning and goals. However, we suggest that you do SWOT analysis at least twice. After reading this book, do an analysis first, make clear your position, and set your goal-going abroad, going to graduate school or working directly after graduation? -then make targeted efforts. Then, when the senior year is faced with a choice, do another analysis to determine his final path.

Judging from the analysis results of the HiAll team case base, this analysis method is effective, and our case analysis will also adopt this concise method, without losing the grasp of key details. Through the combination of perceptual analysis and objective analysis, micro-analysis and macro-grasp, and data analysis, everyone's situation is truly and accurately expressed. Let's see how SWOT is used.

Case study (case study)

SWOT analysis of all cases in our case base, so as to have a systematic grasp of the whole case. Now let's take a look at how our team member Zhang Da conducts SWOT analysis.

1 Comprehensive analysis and SWOT analysis

This is a relatively elementary usage of SWOT (generally used in undergraduate business schools).

List the problems of s, w, o and t by brainstorming;

Give priority to them;

Comprehensive utilization of s, w, o and t.

Advantages and uses of (1)

1) strength:

(1) Good professional background, all professional courses, no 85

2 outstanding English ability, outstanding among peers;

(3) I have many internship experiences, and I am good at dealing with adults, and my language skills are excellent.

2) Take advantage of:

(1) when applying for engineering and technical work, it is dominant;

(2) It is conspicuous when applying for a job and interviewing (talents with good English and good professionalism are scarce now);

③ Be more professional in communication and take the lead in the interview.

(2) Disadvantages and remedial measures

1) weakness:

① The results of some basic courses and liberal arts courses are average;

(2) there are some grumpy places in personality.

2) make up for the disadvantages:

① Emphasis on professional skills during the interview;

Try to calm your mind.

(3) Opportunity and its grasp

1) Opportunity:

(1) I accidentally learned that IBM ATP wanted to recruit a part-time job;

② Various recruitment interviews before graduation;

3 3 TOEFL, GRE study test.

2) Seize the opportunity:

(1) Apply immediately, pass several rounds of interviews, and work hard for the next six months, and get unanimous praise and appreciation from the leaders;

Take every interview seriously, seize as many resources as possible, and get a lot of job offer.

Try to improve your English, do well in the exam once, and use the exam to drive learning.

(4) Challenges and their elimination

1) Challenge:

① At ①IBM ATP, you have to learn a lot first, and you have to have several pre-job evaluations. You are faced with an engineer class of twenty or thirty people, which is very stressful.

2 ②GRE composition full score, Chinese 700, TOEFL 660 close to full score;

③ Various difficulties and challenges in the interview process.

2) Eliminate challenges:

I study and practice in the company almost every day during the winter vacation, and so do I when I get home. I have been working for more than ten hours every day for six months. Evaluate psychological suggestion before appointment;

During the period of SARS and the following summer vacation, I worked 12 hours every day, practicing my composition, analyzing topics and accumulating writing materials. At the same time, don't forget to exercise every day, and keep energetic and not sick under heavy labor;

③ Chat with professionals and learn from experience; In the process of part-time, accumulate ways to deal with professionals and broaden your horizons; Investigate each interview company and analyze the needs and characteristics; Prepare materials before the interview, coping strategies, and show strong expressive ability and strong appeal during the interview.

Author's comments:

1, which is a typical example of all-round development, indicating that Zhang greatly really has a deep understanding of himself and the environment;

It is useless to do analysis, but the key is the action after analysis. Student Zhang Da has such ferocity. He spent several months working 12 hours every day, practicing his composition, analyzing problems and accumulating writing materials. This is not what ordinary people can do.

3. Efforts should be comprehensive. University is an excellent period for us to improve our comprehensive quality. Zhang Da has done a good job in this respect, with good academic performance and many internship opportunities. In fact, the two complement each other.

2. minimax SWOT analysis

A more comprehensive use of SWOT is called "maximum-minimum" method (MiniMax SWOT analysis).

How to maximize advantages and minimize disadvantages?

How to maximize opportunities while minimizing challenges?

On the surface, this SWOT analysis is the interaction of some internal and external factors. It includes the possibility and importance matrix. In Table 2-6, the gray grid is the analysis of S, W, O and T, just like the primary SWOT, but in the white grid, it is a very important correlation.

Let's take Zhang Da as an example to see the MiniMax SWOT analysis. (See Table 2-2)

The idea of systematically grasping through SWOT analysis runs through Zhang Da's college life. We asked him to talk about the main line he has been following in college life:

In fact, our main task in college is to make our abilities stand out among our peers, that is, how to be truly unique. This can be divided into several parts:

(1) The improvement of real strength. Our self-confidence is based on strength, so in order to have a good future in the future, we must first strive to become a cow. Whether it's grades, rankings, English, awards, part-time jobs, experience, hands-on ability ... To be as excellent as possible, we can't always expect to get a job through opportunistic methods, because people hire you to work, in the final analysis, it depends on your ability.

(2) a sign of strength. You have power, then show me. We need all kinds of evidence to prove our strength. For example, answering questions about research topics can prove our research experience, and various certifications can prove our skills. ...

(3) practice. We are students, and all the students take exams and get grades. Then, if we don't have our own unique experience, the only difference from others is the numbers on our report card. But what would it feel like to put a long internship experience on your resume if we practice every holiday for four years and do a lot of experiments every semester? If you were an interviewer, a dead student and a lot of work, which one would you choose? The answer is obvious!

Author's comments:

Zhang Da deeply realized the connotation and importance of "strength". Everything he did in college increased his strength. So in this year, many people found it difficult to find a job, and he was invincible, and got more than 20 Offer, all of which were heavyweights, such as China Telecom. And all this is based on his clear positioning and targeted efforts. (from Yima Consulting)
