SWOT analysis is one of the commonly used methods in competition analysis. SWOT method is used for selection analysis, that is, the main internal strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats closely related to you are listed through investigation, and arranged in a matrix form in a certain order, and then various factors are analyzed by using the idea of system analysis, and a series of corresponding conclusions (such as countermeasures) are drawn.
This research method was first put forward by a management professor at the University of San Francisco in the early 1980s. Prior to this, as early as the 1960s, some people put forward the internal strengths and weaknesses, external opportunities and threats involved in SWOT analysis, but only analyzed them in isolation, and SWOT method matched these seemingly independent factors with systematic ideas for comprehensive analysis. Using this method is helpful for people to comprehensively, systematically and accurately study the organization's situation, formulate development strategies and plans, and the corresponding development plans or countermeasures.
SWOT analysis mainly includes the following aspects:
1, analysis environment
Use the three methods we introduced earlier to analyze the current environmental factors, namely, external environmental factors and internal capacity factors.
2. Build a SWOT matrix.
The SWOT matrix is constructed by sorting the factors obtained in the survey according to their priority or influence degree. As shown in Figure 2-4.

In this process, those factors that have a direct, important, massive, urgent and long-term impact on your life choice and long-term development should be given priority, while those factors that are indirect, secondary, few, not urgent and short-term should be ranked behind.
Step 3 make a strategy
After completing the analysis of internal and external factors and the construction of SWOT matrix, we can formulate corresponding strategies to give full play to our strengths, overcome our weaknesses and use opportunities to resolve threats. By using the comprehensive analysis method of system analysis, the arranged environmental factors are matched and combined, and a series of optional countermeasures suitable for them are obtained. These countermeasures include:
(1) minimum and minimum game (WT game), that is, consider the weakness factor and threat factor, in order to try to minimize these factors. For example, if your grades are not good, you should study harder in the future. If your social skills are poor, you should take part in more social activities.
(2) Minimum-maximum game (WO game), that is, focusing on the factors of weakness and opportunity, with the aim of trying to minimize weakness and maximize opportunity. For example, although the major in your school is generally cold, there is a strong demand for compound talents in the job market at present, and the weak factors in this area have little influence-if your comprehensive quality is good enough.
(3) Max-min game (ST game), that is, focusing on advantages and threats, aiming at maximizing advantages and minimizing threats. For example, there is great pressure to take the postgraduate entrance examination now. Although you have not reached the standard of our school, your comprehensive quality is still good. At this time, if you apply for graduate students from other schools decisively, you may receive unexpected results.
(4) Maximizing and maximizing countermeasures (SO countermeasures), that is, focusing on advantages and opportunities, with the aim of trying to maximize these two factors. For example, if you have a good English foundation, you can continue to strengthen this advantage in your future efforts and make it the most competitive factor in your various qualities. This should be the most important of the four strategies, because many disadvantages are difficult to make up. Instead of focusing on lengthening the short board, it is better to highlight the advantages.
How to choose a university is related to your future career path and life direction, so be careful. We don't encourage you to do a SWOT analysis to decide your future choice. In fact, as the environment and your own situation change, your choice should be adjusted from time to time. What is provided here is only an analysis tool. You can do a SWOT analysis every once in a while (say, once a semester) to see what changes have taken place in your strengths and weaknesses, opportunities and threats, so as to adjust your positioning and goals. However, we suggest that you do SWOT analysis at least twice. After reading this book, do an analysis first, make clear your position, and set your goal-going abroad, going to graduate school or working directly after graduation? -then make targeted efforts. Then, when the senior year is faced with a choice, do another analysis to determine his final path.
