The South Pagoda is one of the "four pagodas and four temples" built by Huang Taiji in the early Qing Dynasty, which surrounds the east, west, south and north of Shengjing. It was built in the eighth year of Chongde in Qing Dynasty (1643) and completed in the second year of Shunzhi (1645), with a history of more than 350 years. In the early Qing Dynasty, a temple was built under each of the four pagodas, and the pagodas and temples were built at the same time. The temple under the South Pagoda is Guangci Temple, the original hall. According to the records in Volume 97 of Shengjing Tongzhi, Guangci Temple has five pagodas, two pavilions, three palaces, two bell and drum towers, one south pagoda and three mountain gates. The south tower was restored on 1985 1986 and turned into a park and scenic spot.
The South Tower was destroyed in the Russo-Japanese War on 1905. In the eighth year of the Republic of China (19 17), it was restored by the Dalai Lama. 1968 was destroyed by the Cultural Revolution. Fixed on 1986. Move the tower gate of the west tower to this tower when repairing! Its tower gate is on the east tower. The tower is about 20 meters high, and the six-character mantra is provided in the niche of Zhengnan Tower. There is an incense burner and two kowtowing stone beds in front. This tower was still made and restored during the Republic of China, so it was still defined as an ancient pagoda in the Qing Dynasty.
South Tower was listed in the sixth batch of cultural relics protection units in Liaoning Province in 2003.
