Our library attaches great importance to the collection construction, focusing on books on science and engineering, nuclear technology, architecture and mining, computers, economics and management, biology, medicine and health, and taking into account books on social sciences. At present, there are more than 3 million books, 780,000 e-books, 2,500 Chinese periodicals, 38 foreign periodicals and 43 newspapers/kloc-0. According to the needs of the establishment and development of disciplines in the school, a book collection system featuring science, engineering, medicine, management, humanities and social sciences with complete disciplines and various carrier forms has been initially established. According to the scientific layout of the collection, we will provide one-stop service of collection, reading and lending, open all readers in all directions, and maximize the convenience for readers to use literature resources.
The library of University of South China adheres to the tenet of "readers first, service first", and the reading rooms of major subjects are open 74 hours a week. The reading room not only provides reading and borrowing services, but also sets up its own book learning space, which highlights the humanized service principle of "making full use of resources and doing everything for readers". In order to meet the needs of readers, the library has set up services such as document copying, CD copying and tape transcription.
