Phosphoric acid is an inorganic compound with the chemical formula H3PO4. In order to calculate the molar mass of phosphoric acid, we need to find the relative atomic mass of each element and add them up. According to the periodic table of elements, the relative atomic mass of hydrogen is about 1 0 1, that of phosphorus is about 30.97, and that of oxygen is about 16. There are three hydrogen atoms, 1 phosphorus atom and four oxygen atoms in phosphoric acid (H3PO4). The calculated molar mass of phosphoric acid is about 98 grams per mole.
Phosphoric acid can be divided into many types, the common ones are:
1, orthophosphoric acid (H3PO4): Also known as orthophosphoric acid, it is the most common form of phosphoric acid. Colorless liquid, with strong corrosiveness, can react with metals and nonmetals.
2. Phosphorous acid (H4P2O5): Also known as pyrophosphate, it is formed by condensation of two orthophosphoric acid molecules. It is a colorless crystalline solid with high solubility in water.
3. Tripolyphosphoric acid (H5P3O 10): Also known as phosphoric acid, it is formed by condensation of three orthophosphoric acid molecules. It is a colorless crystalline solid, soluble in water.
Use of phosphoric acid
Phosphoric acid is one of the important components of agricultural fertilizer, which can provide phosphorus for plants and promote their growth and development. Phosphoric acid is used as pH regulator, preservative and nutritional supplement in food processing. It can adjust the pH of food, enhance the preservation and provide phosphorus for human body. Phosphoric acid is widely used to make various inorganic and organic compounds, such as phosphate, plastics, detergents and soaps.
In electroplating industry, phosphoric acid is used as cleaning agent and acidic solution in electroplating process to help remove dirt on metal surface and provide suitable conditions for subsequent electroplating operations. Phosphoric acid can be used to bleach pulp, remove yellow pigments and impurities, and improve the quality and whiteness of paper. Phosphoric acid can be used as a buffer and stabilizer in the process of water treatment to adjust the pH value of water and prevent the formation of scale. Phosphoric acid is used as a raw material for drug synthesis in pharmaceutical industry and can also be used as one of the ingredients in some cosmetics.
