The total length of Gui Xiang Railway is 10 13km, starting from Hengyang in Hunan in the east and Pingxiang in Guangxi in the west. It was built in the 1930s. At that time, the national strength was weak, the conditions were limited, and it was destroyed by many wars, so the line standard was low and the equipment was simple. It is one of the few low-speed single-track railways in China. After liberation, although it has been repaired and rebuilt many times, it has not fundamentally changed its low standard and backward equipment, which has seriously restricted the demand for economic growth along the route. Therefore, during the Eleventh Five-Year Plan period, Xianggui Railway was listed as a busy trunk road network and a part of the Southwest Railway Expressway, and the capacity expansion and speed-up transformation were carried out in an all-round way. The project started in 2008, with a design speed of 200 kilometers per hour, which is more than 1 times higher than the target. Upon completion, it will become a national I-class double-track railway. The travel time from Hengyang to Nanning will be shortened from 12 hours to 3 hours, and it will truly become a fast and large channel in the southwest.
The Gui Xiang Railway Hengyang Xiangjiang Bridge is 2,979 meters long, which is the first bridge across Gui Xiang Railway and the longest river-crossing bridge. Because it crosses Xiangjiang River, Beijing-Guangzhou Railway, 107 National Road and Hengyang Baisha Avenue, it is difficult to construct and has high safety risk, which is one of the key and difficult control projects in the whole line. The bridge is also a key project when railway construction is suspended in many places. In view of various problems such as interchange and deep-water construction, China Railway 25th Bureau Group has continuously optimized the construction scheme, scientifically organized the construction, strictly controlled the quality, reversed the construction period, and streamlined various procedures, thus setting off a construction boom. In the case of a high shortage of railway construction funds, the unit raised funds in various ways, focusing on ensuring the normal construction of the bridge, not only overcoming the once-in-a-century flood in Xiangjiang River, but also creating a record of continuous beam construction with a main span of 7 days, ensuring the safe, high-quality and efficient completion of the construction.
