Weizhou Island is located in the middle of Beibu Gulf, bordering Beihai in Guangxi in the north, Leizhou Peninsula in the east, Xieyang Island in the southeast, Hainan Island across the sea in the south and Vietnam in the west. Weizhou Island was designated as a provincial-level tourist resort on 1994, and it is also a national geological park in China. The famous buildings on the island include Sanlao Temple, Notre Dame and Catholic Church. Haicheng District of Beihai City governs Weizhou Town. There are more than 2,000 families living on the island with a population of 1.6 million, of which more than 75% are Hakkas.
Landscape: Weizhou Island has magnificent scenery. The famous scenic spots include "Dripping Water and Danping", "Turtle Bow", "Sesame Beach", "French Missionary Head", "Volcano Bomb Collection", Sanlao Temple, Shengdan Temple, Catholic Church and Tang Xianzu's sea view place.
Specialty: The island is rich in peanuts and bananas. Peanut oil produced here has golden color, low water content and storage resistance. It has long been exported to Hong Kong and Southeast Asia. Sea cucumber, abalone and eel belly are four famous products at home and abroad. Cuttlefish, grouper and red fish are also specialties here, as well as turtles, seahorses and dolphins.
