Creative background:

This poem was written by Huang Chao when he was young, before the uprising. Huang Chao, a young man, went to Chang 'an, the capital, to take the imperial examination, and he came last. He witnessed the corruption of the imperial examination system and the darkness of the examination room, and was determined to completely change the dark social reality of the Tang Dynasty one day.

About the author:

Huang Chao (820 -884), a native of Cao Zhou (now southwest of Heze), was the leader of the peasant uprising in the late Tang Dynasty. Huang Chao was born in a salt merchant's family. He was good at riding and shooting, and was good at writing and painting. Poetry was rare. When he was five years old, he could write poems, but he tried many times as an adult.

On November 17th, the first year of Guangming (880), Liu Ying, who stayed in the East Palace, entered Luoyang. 1 February1day, soldiers arrived in Tongguan. On December 13th, the first year of Guangming (880), Huang Chao invaded Chang 'an, proclaimed himself emperor in the Han and Yuan Dynasties Hall, and established the golden system of the Yuan Dynasty, killing hundreds of imperial officials in the Tang Dynasty.

Under the fierce attack of General Li Keyong and General Wang Chongrong in the Tang Dynasty, on June 15th, the fourth year of Zhonghe (884), Huang Chao defeated Wolf Tiger Valley (southwest of Laiwu, Shandong). In the early years of Zhao Zongtian, Huang Chao's nephew Huang Hao led the remnants to flee and ambushed local tyrant Deng in Xiangyin, Hunan Province, and the peasant uprising ended in the late Tang Dynasty.
