Tianjin, referred to as Jingu and Jinmen for short, is a provincial administrative region of People's Republic of China (PRC), a municipality directly under the central government, a national central city and a megacity approved by the State Council, and an economic center of the Bohai Rim region.
Tianjin is located in the north of China, east of Bohai Sea, northeast of North China Plain and downstream of Haihe River Basin. It is the confluence and estuary of five tributaries of Haihe River, namely, South Canal, Ziya River, Daqinghe River, Yongding River and North Canal, and is known as "the lower tip of Jiujiang" and "the river is in a hurry".

Tianjin began with the opening of the Grand Canal in Sui Dynasty.
