Baishun Hutong 1

Baishun Hutong, formerly known as Bai Shu Hutong, is located in the southwest of Dashilan area, with a total length of 245 meters and a width of 5.7 meters. It was called Cypress Hutong in Ming Dynasty, so it was named after planting cypress. In the early Qing Dynasty, the homonym took the meaning of "Baishun Shun" and changed its name to Baishun Hutong.

2. Rouge Hutong

Rouge Hutong, formerly known as Rouge Lane, has a total length of 100 meter and a width of about 5 meters. Its north entrance is in Baishun Hutong, and its south entrance is in zhushikou West Street, Liangguang Road. Hutong is north-south, with Dongbiying and Xibiying passing through it. Now the remaining length is only thirty or forty meters. Hutongs are small, but they are often included in the eight hutongs. Rouge Hutong is the shortest of these hutongs, but there are more than a dozen first-class brothels.

3. Hanjia Hutong

Hanjia Hutong is located in the northeast of Xuanwu District, starting from Shaanxi Lane in the east and reaching Wudao Street in the west. In the Ming Dynasty, there lived a big family named Han. There was a big pool in the garden of the house, so people called it Hanjiatan. Located in the southwest of Dashilan area, it runs east-west, starting from Shaanxi Lane in the east and reaching Wudao Street in the west. The west exit meets Tieshuxie Street, Tangzi Street and Wudao Street. After the founding of People's Republic of China (PRC), it was renamed Han Jia Hutong.

From the Qianlong period to 1949, Shaanxi Lane opened a first-class Yin Qing small class. Yin Qing Small Class is not only a flesh-and-blood enterprise, but also accompanies guests to have tea, feast, play the piano and sing, and write songs and lyrics.

5. Shitou Hutong

Stone Hutong was 448 meters long and 5.9 meters wide in the 1970s. House number:1-129,2-80. Now it has been demolished for nearly 30 meters because of the repair of Guangdong-Guangxi Road. There are Wangjiang Guild Hall, Yuxian Guild Hall, Yanling Guild Hall and Longyan Guild Hall in Hutong.

6. Wang Guangfu Xie Jie

Once called the king's widow, she is now a palm tree, with Shamao Hutong of Da and Xiao Li in the east and Stone Hutong in the west. The house in this hutong is rather shabby. Once upon a time, there were three-level brothels here, including Jiuxiang Tea Room, Juqianyuan, Gui Xiang Courtyard, Shuangjin Xiachu, Quanle Xiachu and Yuelai Store.

Address: southwest of Qianmen, about half a kilometer west of the west exit of Dashilan Street.

7. Zhujiahutong

Zhujiahu Hutong is divided into Liuwei Hutong and He Miaomiao Hutong. There are more than 20 third-class brothels in this hutong, including Yichun House, Lu Shengyuan and Hongshun. Qingfeng Lane, Qingfeng Avenue, Zhumao Hutong, Yan Jia Hutong and Xiyangmao Hutong, which are connected with Zhujiahu, are also the gathering places of brothels and earthen kilns in old Beijing, but they are not as famous as the "Eight Hutong".

Address: Beijing? Xicheng District

8. Li Shamao Interchange

This hutong is small, with a total of 2 1, but in old Beijing, brothels occupy nearly 20 yards. The brothels here are mainly third-class, and the famous ones are Shuangfeng Building, Meixin Building, Yongquan Building, Tianshun Building, Quansheng Building and Liansheng Store. Because this hutong is close to some theaters and restaurants, there are also several second-class brothels.

Address: Near some theaters and restaurants.

Although the vicissitudes of the eight hutongs are closely related to crime, degeneration and drug abuse, they also witnessed the atrocities of foreign powers' invasion in the late Qing Dynasty and the sorrow of regime change in the early Republic of China.

Walking through Cherry Street, just a foot away from Liulichang, which is separated from the eight hutongs, I came to another completely different world. The origin of Liulichang can be traced back to the Liulichang established here in the Yuan Dynasty. After Yongle, the founding emperor of the Ming Dynasty, moved to Beijing, a large number of glazed tiles and related components were needed for the construction of Beijing. Therefore, on the basis of the original Yuan Dynasty, the scale of glazed tile kiln factory was expanded.

The "eight hutongs" mentioned by old Beijingers do not refer to these eight streets and alleys, but generally refer to Dashilan area outside Qianmen, because there are nearly 100 brothels of different sizes in the hutongs outside these eight streets and alleys. It's just that the brothels in these eight hutongs were mostly first-class and second-class, and the prostitutes' "grades" were relatively high, so they were so famous.
