The development of China's novels can be traced back to the myths and fables in the pre-Qin and Han Dynasties, to the search for gods in the Wei, Jin and Six Dynasties, and to the rise of tang legends. Most of the legends in the Tang Dynasty were written by literati on purpose, and they began to describe the rich social life in depth, which is a sign that the literary genre of novels is maturing. Li's Biography of Liu Yi is one of the most representative works.
One day, Li went to the suburbs to interview retired officials. Xue Wei told him in detail the legendary story of his cousin Liu Yi delivering books for the Dragon Lady. After returning to China, he repeatedly thought about it and revised it into Liu Yichuan, which became one of the most successful legendary chapters since the Tang Dynasty and occupied a place in the history of China literature.
The story tells that the daughter of Dongting Dragon King married the second son of Jingchuan Dragon King. The husband abused his wife and drove her out of the Dragon Palace to herd sheep. The dragon lady had nowhere to turn for help, so she hid her face and wept. Liu Yi, a scholar, sent a book and newspaper on behalf of the Dragon Girl, who was rescued and reunited with her family in the Dragon Palace. Dragon Lady thanked Liu Yi for her kindness and fell in love. The Dragon King also wants to marry her daughter to Liu Yi.
However, Liu Yi's biography is a brave statement that he refused marriage because of his selflessness. After returning home, Liu Yi married two wives, both of whom died unfortunately. Later, he married a fisherman's daughter, who looked like a dragon girl. Later, he found out that this woman was the dragon girl who asked for books. From then on, the husband and wife respected each other as guests and grew old together.
This legend is based on Liu Yi's experience. With the development of the story, the author gradually used delicate atmosphere description and a large number of dialogues highlighting personality characteristics to create four vivid artistic models: Dong Tingjun is a kind, affectionate, tolerant and kind person;
Qiantangjun is a hero who hates evil, is brave, reckless and generous. Dragon girl is a gentle and kind lady, who is obsessed with love; Liu Yi is an obedient, sympathetic, upright, selfless and unyielding chivalrous man.
