According to Taiping guangji? Volume 12? Dong Feng recorded that the word "Xinglin" originated from the story of Dong Feng, a famous doctor in the Three Kingdoms period. Dong Feng was a famous doctor in Wu Dong from the late Eastern Han Dynasty to the Three Kingdoms period. His medical skills are brilliant, his hands are rejuvenated, and he is famous for his noble medical ethics. Dong Feng is as famous as Hua Tuo and Zhang Zhongjing, and is known as the "Jian 'an Three Magical Doctors".
Dong Feng later went to Lushan Mountain in Zhang Yu to live in seclusion. He lives in the mountains and doesn't farm. He treats people for nothing every day. He cured his serious illness, so Dong Feng asked the patient to plant five apricot trees, cured his mild illness and planted one. In a few years, there have been hundreds of thousands of trees, which have become a lush apricot forest. He let all the birds and animals in the mountain play under the apricot tree, and no weeds grew under the tree, just like weeding on purpose. When the apricots were ripe, Dong Feng built a barn with grass in Xinglin, telling people: "People who want to buy apricots don't have to tell Dong Feng, as long as they put a can of grain into the barn, they can get a can of apricots themselves." Someone once put less food in the barn, but took a lot of apricots. Just then, a group of tigers roared out of Xinglin. The man was so scared that he hurried away with apricots, but he fell down on the side of the road. I went home to measure apricots, and the remaining apricots were just as much as the food I sent, so there is also a saying that "the tiger guards the apricot tree." Dong Feng sells apricot grain every year to help poor families and provide it to those who lack travel expenses. More than 20,000 welcome grains can be distributed every year.
Dong Feng's medical skill is superb, but he doesn't care about fame and fortune. He is a philanthropist, and his lofty medical ethics are admired and praised by people, which has become an eternal story. Therefore, "Xinglin" has become synonymous with the medical profession.
