Yunnan Normal University is a provincial key normal university with a long history and fine tradition. It is one of the 100 key universities built by the Ministry of Education and the Yunnan Provincial People's Government and one of the national basic capacity improvement projects in the central and western regions.
1937, Peking University, Tsinghua University and Nankai University moved to Kunming to form Southwest United University, which consists of College of Arts, College of Science, College of Engineering, School of Law and Business, and Teachers College.
After the victory of the Anti-Japanese War, the three schools that formed the General Association were demobilized and returned to the north on 1946. The Teachers' College stayed in Kunming to run its own school, and was named as the National Kunming Teachers' College. 1950 was renamed as Kunming Teachers' College, and 1984 was renamed as Yunnan Normal University. After more than 80 years of development, the school has trained more than 300,000 talents at all levels for the country and is known as the "cradle of people's teachers on the red soil plateau".
The school covers an area of 3,300 mu and consists of 22 colleges and 29 affiliated and cooperative schools and kindergartens. The school has more than 32,000 full-time doctors, masters and undergraduates, and more than 6000 adult continuing education students/kloc-0.
The library has 3.7504 million paper documents, 35 e-book platforms 1 188000, and 35 basic and core databases in Chinese and foreign languages. It is the sixth batch of national key protection units of ancient books, the director and secretary-general unit of the Library and Information Work Steering Committee of Yunnan Higher Education Teaching Steering Committee, and the China Higher Education Document Guarantee System (CALIS) Yunnan Document Information Service Center.
