Southwest University is a key comprehensive university directly under the Ministry of Education and a national key construction school of "2 1 1 Project". In July 2005, it was formed by the merger of the former Southwest Normal University and the former Southwest Agricultural University. It turned out that the two schools were built adjacent to each other and of the same origin. They originated from East Sichuan Normal School, a new school in China, which was opened in southwest China in the 32nd year of Guangxu reign of Qing Dynasty. After several developments, it has become today's Southwest University.
