Legal basis: Article 6 of the National Regulations on Postgraduate Enrollment in 20021issued by the Ministry of Education is divided into two stages: initial examination and re-examination. Both the initial examination and the second examination are important parts of the postgraduate entrance examination. The initial examination is organized by the state, and the second examination is organized by the admissions unit.
The initial examination methods are divided into national unified examination (including joint examination), separate examination and recommended exemption.
Part or all of the examination subjects of the national unified examination are proposed by the examination center of the Ministry of Education, and other examination subjects are proposed by the enrollment units themselves.
The individual examination shall be conducted by the enrollment unit with the qualification of individual examination, and the candidates shall meet the specific registration conditions. The examination subjects are independently proposed or selected by the enrollment unit.
Recommended exemption refers to the selection method that according to the relevant national policies, outstanding undergraduate graduates and other candidates who meet the relevant regulations recommended by some colleges and universities are confirmed to be exempt from the preliminary examination and directly re-examined by the enrollment unit.
