The main stream of the Aojiang River flows from west to east, with undulating mountains and high terrain in the west, and only a small scattered paddy field in the canyon area. Most of the eastern part is a coastal plain with large paddy fields. The total drop of the mainstream of Aojiang River is 835 meters. The source of the whole water flow is along the stream.
The main stream of Aojiang River originates from the south of Wudi Mountain in South Yandang Mountain, and its main peak is 1 124 meters above sea level. As for the source, there have been disputes that originated from Taishun Jiu Feng, Ruian Dajian, Pingyang Lion Rock and Wencheng Ghost Library. In order to determine the source, relevant departments of Wenzhou City and Pingyang County organized experts to conduct a special investigation in the summer of 1987, and finally determined it as a ghost bank.
The upstream of the Aojiang River is from Heyuan to Pingyang Shunxi, with a length of 19.5438+0 km. Because its banks are composed of rocks, it flows through high mountains and canyons, and the current is swift and tortuous. The riverbed is rocky and narrow, with a river width of 50 to 100 m and a steep slope of 39.8‰, which belongs to a mountain stream.
Shunxi Town to Zhanjiabu (north bank) and Xiaonan Xia Zheng (south bank) are the middle reaches of the Aojiang River, with a total length of 24.7 kilometers and an average gradient of 2.9‰. The two banks are gradually out of the control of rocks, but the water is still fast and the river is tortuous. River width 100 to 200m, valley width 200 to 500m. The riverbed is mostly covered with pebbles, but it is steep, and the change of flood-dry ratio often swings and changes its course many times, forming inter-river platforms such as Taihu Lake, East Gate and Shuitou.
From Zhanjiabu, Xia Zheng to Hekou, it is the lower reaches of the Aojiang River, with a total length of 48.67 kilometers, which is a tidal reach. The whole section is affected by tides, and the riverbed is also controlled by tides. The terrain is still high in the west and low in the east, with an average slope of 0. 1‰. There are alluvial plains and coastal plains on both banks, and the riverbed coverage gradually changes from sandy pebbles to muddy silt. The river is about 200 meters wide, and the width from Daikou Bridge to Hekou River is 350 to 1200 meters.
The water of the Aojiang River runs through the entire South Yandang Mountain Scenic Area. Aojiang River originates from the source of the ghost house, flows through Wuyang Mountain in Pingyang, and there is a long grand canyon in southern Zhejiang. Gechang Covered Bridge, built in Qing Dynasty, is one of the steepest covered bridges in southern Zhejiang. When the water reached the ancient town of Shunxi, the riverbed suddenly opened. This is one of the main attractions of South Yandang Mountain, including the Hundred Monks Hall in the Yuan Dynasty, the magnificent triple waterfall, the bosom friend creek with pleasant scenery, the Chen's ancient house, a national cultural relic with rich cultural heritage, and the Thrushcross Peak shrouded in mist all the year round. Aojiang to Nanyan Town, where mountains are stacked, streams are wide and gentle, streams meet, and Artemisia grass grows, is the central scenic spot of Nanyan Dangshan. During the Five Dynasties, scenic spots were developed, and there were many celebrities in history, including Guanyin Cave, Xiangu Cave, Huiwen Academy, Di Ku Shihui Building and many other landscapes.
Many important towns have gradually developed in the places where the Aojiang River flows, mainly including Shuitou Town, Mabu Town, Xiaojiang Town and Aojiang Town in Pingyang County, Lingxi Town and Longgang Town in Cangnan County. Shuitou Town, named after the tidal bore of the Aojiang River, is the intersection of salt water and fresh water in the Aojiang River. In ancient times, it was characterized by transporting hemp, so there was a town of "ma bu" or horse stance just look by the river. On both sides of the middle reaches of Hengyang tributary are Lingxi Town, Cangnan County. Where the tributary of Hengyang River flows into the main stream, Xiao Zhen, assistant minister of Song Dynasty, donated money to build a ship, and set up a ferry here, because there is Xiaojiang Town here. There is a Zangqian Town (merged into Aojiang Town) at the corner of the lower reaches of the Aojiang River. In ancient times, it was a transit point for north and south passengers and goods. There are also Aojiang Town, which is famous for its river, and long gang zhen, which is prosperous because of the river. These two towns are both important towns in Zhejiang Province.
