Kunming, also known as Spring City, is the capital of Yunnan Province. Located in the southwest of China, in the middle of Yunnan-Guizhou Plateau. It is 237.50 kilometers long from north to south and 152 kilometers wide from east to west, with a total area of 2 10 12.54 square kilometers. It is one of the central cities in the southwest of China.
As of June 8, 2022, Kunming has jurisdiction over 7 districts and 6 counties, and there are 8 1 street, 42 towns, 16 townships (including 4 ethnic townships) and 139 townships (streets) within the administrative division of the city. By 20021year, the annual GDP will be 722.25 billion yuan, and the permanent population of Kunming will be 8.502 million.
The overall topography of Kunming is high in the north and low in the south, and gradually decreases from north to south. The landform of karst plateau in lake basin is dominant, followed by that of Hongshan plain. Most areas are at 1500-2800 meters above sea level.
Kunming has a monsoon climate in low latitude plateau and mountainous areas, with an average annual precipitation of about 1 1,000 mm. Flowers bloom all year round, and the vegetation is evergreen all year round. It is a famous "Spring City" and "Flower City" and an ideal place for leisure, tourism, vacation and residence.
By the end of 2022, it won the E-level gold medal of UN-HABITAT's "International Garden City", the top ten livable cities in China and the best leisure and livable green eco-city in China.
As of 202 1, there are 52 ordinary colleges and universities, 40 ordinary high schools1and 77 secondary vocational education schools in the city. In terms of cultural institutions, there are 37 registered museums, public libraries 15, cultural centers 15, cultural stations 1465438 and cultural and artistic performance groups 3 129. In terms of medical and health care, there are 5,608 health institutions in the city.
Kunming is one of the first 24 famous historical and cultural cities in the State Council. 1276, Kunming was called Zhongqing City and became the provincial capital for the first time. In the Ming Dynasty, a large number of immigrants entered Yunnan, and the Han population in Kunming surpassed the local residents for the first time. In the late Ming and early Qing Dynasties, Li Dingguo and other peasant rebels, Li Yong and Wu Sangui successively established political power or palaces in Kunming.
