Emperor Wu of the Han Dynasty respected teachers and attached great importance to education. Did he personally observe a moment of silence for the teacher?

Respecting teachers and attaching importance to teaching is the traditional virtue of the Chinese nation. As early as ancient times, people regarded teachers as equals with heaven, earth, monarch and relatives. The proverbs "Every son of heaven, marshal and general must have his teacher" and "Once a teacher, always a father" have also been passed down from generation to generation. The earliest record of respecting teachers and teaching in China should be The Book of Rites. He said: "The way to learn is difficult to be strict with the teacher. It is difficult for a strict teacher to respect Tao, and then the people know how to respect learning. " This shows that it is the most important thing to respect teachers and respect morality. Only by respecting teachers can we be honest; Only by emphasizing morality can people attach importance to learning and education.

During the Spring and Autumn Period and the Warring States Period, Confucius pioneered the education in China and founded the first school in Queli, Qufu, Shandong. Later, he was honored as "Confucius sage" and was praised as "Confucius sage" by the world. Emperor Kangxi of the Qing Dynasty visited Qufu, paid homage to Confucius, and presented the "model for all generations" with a gold plaque.

Zi Gong, a student of Confucius, was smart and eager to learn, and achieved a great career. He always respects his teacher. In the state of Lu at that time, some people raised Zigong and belittled Confucius. He was very angry after hearing this, and corrected this rumor many times, and vividly said: "The teacher is a fence several feet high, and the house is magnificent, which is invisible to ordinary people. I am just a shoulder-high fence that can be seen at a glance. " He also compared the teacher to the sun and the moon, saying that the teacher "shines on people, which is beyond the reach of ordinary people." After the death of Confucius, Zi Gong was very sad. He lived in a house next to Confucius' tomb for six years before leaving.

Li Shimin, the founding emperor of the Tang Dynasty, was a rare monarch in Chinese history. He also knows that the prosperity and long-term stability of the country are very important, and it is very important to do a good job in children's education. He believes that teaching princes and kings is "an urgent task today". Therefore, the teachers he chose for his sons were highly respected and knowledgeable people. Moreover, he repeatedly warned the children that they must respect the teachers. On one occasion, Li Gang, the teacher of the Prince, could not walk because of his foot disease. When Emperor Taizong knew this, he chartered Li Gang to give lectures in the palace in a sedan chair, and ordered the Crown Prince to meet the teacher himself. You know, in feudal society, the harem was closely guarded. Except the emperor, his concubines and children, other officials are afraid to go in and out.

Later, Emperor Taizong also called Guiwang, the minister of rites, as the teacher of Wang Wei, the fourth son. One day, he heard someone complain that Wang Wei didn't respect his teacher. Emperor Taizong was very angry. He criticized his son in front of Wang Gui: "Every time you see your teacher Wang Gui in the future, you should respect him as you see me, and you can't relax at all." From then on, when Wang Wei met his teacher Wang Gui, he always listened respectfully. Due to the strict family education of Emperor Taizong, his sons respected their teachers and never showed disrespect. Therefore, "Emperor Taizong teaches his son to respect his teacher" has also been passed down as a much-told story by later generations.

Liu Che, the emperor of the Han Dynasty, respected his teacher all his life. Hearing the news that his teacher Huan Rong died of illness, he was heartbroken. Despite the opposition of ministers, he took off his robes and put on his designated mourning clothes, and went to the teacher's house to mourn in person.

Respecting teachers and attaching importance to teaching, the ancients have set an example for us. In today's modernization, we should carry forward this fine tradition.
