Chapter II Claims Application
Article 6 China citizens who have reached the age of 16 shall go through the formalities of applying for resident identity cards at the household registration authority where their permanent residence is located. Citizens who have reached the age of 16 shall apply for resident identity cards within 30 days from their birthdays.
Article 7 Overseas Chinese who have returned to settle in China, compatriots from Hong Kong and Macao who have returned to the mainland, and compatriots from Taiwan Province Province who have returned to the mainland to settle in China, who have reached the age of 16, shall apply for resident identity cards while registering in registered permanent residence.
Article 8 Foreigners and stateless persons who have settled in China and have been approved to become citizens of People's Republic of China (PRC), who have reached the age of 16, shall apply for resident identity cards while registering in registered permanent residence.
Article 9 Persons who have been sentenced to criminal detention or fixed-term imprisonment or above, those who have been reeducated through labor and those who have no resident identity cards during their detention shall apply for resident identity cards after they have been released from prison or released from reeducation through labor. Persons sentenced to public surveillance or independent application of supplementary punishment, as well as persons sentenced to criminal detention or suspended imprisonment, may apply for resident identity cards.
Article 10 To apply for a resident identity card, citizens need to fill in the registration form of permanent residents, submit their household registration books and submit two recent standard photos.
