1February 8, 983, the State Council approved the revocation of Loudi District of Loudi City and changed it to Loudi District of Xiangtan City (county level), and Shuangfeng and Lianyuan counties were placed under the jurisdiction of Xiangtan City; Lengshuijiang City was abolished and changed to Lengshuijiang District of Shaoyang City (county level), and Shaodong, Xinshao and Xinhua counties were under the jurisdiction of Shaoyang City. However, it was not implemented and the name of Loudi area was revoked.
On July 1983 and 13, the State Council approved the restoration of Loudi area and its administrative office. Loudi City, Lengshuijiang City, Shuangfeng County, Lianyuan County and Xinhua County belong to Loudi District, while Shaodong County and Xinshao County belong to Shaoyang City.
