Is the information security major easy to learn? What are the employment prospects?

Information security is a relatively good major, with many things but not too complicated. Information security must be based on extensive computer and mathematical knowledge. At present, there is a trend of "IT elite" to "IT migrant workers". The wider the knowledge, the better the employment and the future work of R&D in the company.

The specialized courses of information security are mainly computer (the courses of computer science and technology are basically finished), plus cryptography, network security, network attack technology, network defense technology and so on.

As far as employment is concerned, there is a "shortage" of talents in this field in China at present, and security issues are highly valued by enterprises, companies and governments.

Of course, in terms of employment, it will not be a problem for a long time in the future, but to be honest, universities rely on themselves, and their efforts are directly proportional to the treatment after graduation.

Let's talk about the information security of the University of Electronic Science and Technology of China. Indeed, the information security of Chengdian is no better than that of Shanghai Jiaotong University, Wuhan University, Shandong University and Beihou University. And it is not as good as other communication and microelectronics majors in the school. But at least it's the best in computer school.

Off-topic: Information security has not been established for a long time in China, and each school has its own characteristics in teaching. Most schools put this major in the School of Computer Science (Southwest Jiaotong University seems to be in the School of Communication, while Jiaotong University is an independent college). I believe that all aspects of teaching, management and scientific research systems will be gradually improved in the future.

In addition, because information security involves a wide range of knowledge, it takes more effort to learn than computers, and research is needed in the future, which may not be fruitful for many years. This requires patience and perseverance.
