The Economy of Taozhuang Town

Since the reform and opening up, the economic and social undertakings of Taozhuang Town have made great progress. By the end of 2003, the town had achieved a gross domestic product of 650 million yuan and a gross industrial and agricultural output value of 2.85 billion yuan, including a gross industrial output value of 2.75 billion yuan, a gross agricultural output value of 654.38 billion yuan, a fiscal revenue of 26 million yuan, a per capita income of 6,450 yuan for farmers and a foreign exchange earning of 4.7 million US dollars through export. Agriculture has initially embarked on a development path of benefit agriculture with aquaculture as the mainstay and the combination of planting and breeding. All kinds of aquaculture in the town covers an area of 20,206 mu, and more than ten series of "Hu Fen" brand aquatic products breeding, processing and distribution bases, such as river crabs, shrimps, mandarin fish, soft-shelled turtles, pearls and four big fish, have begun to take shape. An industrial economic structure featuring new hardware machinery manufacturing, textile, building materials and wood industry, metal stamping parts and household silk products has been formed. At present, there are 3 13 silk weavers, 7 1737 silk weavers, 8 12 silk weavers and 3,086 silk weavers in the whole town, with a strong development momentum. The industrial zone of five square kilometers presents a good development trend. The tertiary industry, mainly scrap steel and tourism, has developed rapidly. There are 774 scrap trading shops and more than 200 metal round cake cutting households. The master plan of "Hufen Lake Forest Resort" covering an area of 8.3 square kilometers has been completed and started. A new pattern of tourism in northern Shaanxi, which integrates leisure vacation, religious and cultural activities of Yuanjue Temple and sightseeing of Tao Zhuang Shiplock, is taking shape. The development strategy of "establishing a town through agriculture, prospering the town through industry and strengthening the town through three industries" is gradually being reflected.
