Writing style of business English memo: notes 1. First of all, the word memo can sometimes be omitted, because most memos are printed on special company paper, and the company logo is already printed on paper. If there is no memo, you should print more. The word memo can be written in the middle or left of the first line.
2. Pay attention to the format of the memorandum, that is, the positions of the recipient, sender, date and subject are different from the agenda, which can take the following forms:
From: Destination:
Date: Reply: To: From:
Subject: Date: Date: To:
Sender: Subject:
3. Clearly indicate the intention and accurately convey the information. In practical work, the content of the memorandum can be long or short, formal or informal, and even very colloquial. This mainly depends on who the target audience is and the formality of writing. Don't use too complicated words, write simply, and each sentence expresses a meaning.
4. If the content is long, it can be numbered in sections appropriately, and symbols such as 1, 2, 3 or A, B and C can be used to identify different content.
5. Language should be polite.
6. The writing of the memorandum will involve the time and place of the meeting. To convey such information clearly involves the correct use of prepositions indicating time and place, which is only a small part of grammar knowledge that needs attention. Not only do you need to pay attention to grammar knowledge in informal writing, but you should also pay attention to these details in letters and reports, so this book specially explains important grammar knowledge. For grammar explanation and practice, please refer to Unit 2, Chapter 5 of this book.
Evaluation of Memos in BEC Examination
Among the three levels of BEC, memo usually only appears in the primary and intermediate writing exams. Please note the following points:
1. You will be asked to write a memo in the elementary exam, but the topic of the exam will be written in memo format.
2. For intermediate candidates, the format of the memorandum must be mastered.
3. The recipient, sender, date and subject in the format, no matter how many words are included, are not included in the number of words required by the exam. For example, the writing requirement of the memorandum in intermediate writing is 40-50 words, which refers to the text of the memorandum, and the words in the format are not counted.
