Ma is one of the masters of Buddhist culture and has many disciples. According to relevant Buddhist classics, there are as many as 139 disciples who can be verified, but not many of them are widely known. Mazu Yi Dao taught his clothes to four proud students all his life, and Mazu Yi Dao's most proud disciple was Baizhang Huaihai Zen Master. In addition, the disciples of Mazu Yi Dao, such as Xitang Nazang Zen Master, Guizong Nachang Zen Master and Nanquan Puyuan Zen Master, also made great contributions to the development of Buddhism.

Besides Baizhang Huaihai Zen Master, the proud disciple of Mazu Yi Dao, Xitang Naoko Zen Master has been studying Buddhism with Mazu Yi Dao since he was 23 years old, and has also become a famous Zen master. Master Quan Puyuan inherited Mazu Yi Dao's style of study and promoted Hongzhou Buddhist spirit. Most of Mazu's disciples have made great achievements. Of course, there are also disciples who worship Buddha with peace of mind and spend the rest of their lives quietly in the old temple in the mountains.
