Zhuhai, a prefecture-level city and sub-central city in Guangdong Province, is a China Special Economic Zone approved by the State Council, a core city on the west bank of the Pearl River Estuary, a coastal scenic tourist city and an important node city in Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area. Located in the south-central part of Guangdong Province, it faces Hong Kong and Shenzhen across the sea in the east and Macao land in the south. Hengqin New District faces Macau across the river, with Jiangmen City in the west and Zhongshan City in the north.
Zhuhai belongs to Guangfu area in history, and Guangfu people are an important group to create Lingnan culture. Zhuhai is one of the representative cities of Guangfu culture, an important starting point for Guangfu people to go overseas, and one of the earliest special economic zones established in China. Zhuhai 1979 set up a city, and 1980 set up a special economic zone, enjoying the local legislative power entrusted by the National People's Congress.
Zhuhai has successively won the titles of National Garden City, China Excellent Tourism City, China Most Happy City, National Forest City, China Ecological Civilization Award, UN-HABITAT International Best Model Award for Improving Human Settlements, and China Most Happy City in February 2020, and has been identified as the fifth batch of pilot areas for the reform of home and community pension services supported by the central government.
