The Mengbao Line was completed in 19 18- 1928,193 1936 and officially opened to traffic in June1936. It is one of the narrow gauge (gauge 1m) railways built in China in the early days. The line extends from Mengzi Station to the northwest, connects with a Bilinshi Railway at Yupupu Station, reaches Ji Jie Station, and then forks to the west, passing through Jianshui County and Shiping County to Baoxiu Town. This is a railway trunk line built to develop resources in southern Yunnan Province. This line and the standard gauge railway only handle the transportation of complete vehicles and goods, and now they have stopped.
Or meter gauge, that is, narrow gauge railway. Mengbao Railway is connected with Kunhe Railway at Yuwupu Station through Caoguan Railway Branch Line at Caoba Station. At Ji Jie Station, it reaches Gejiu through a branch line of Ji Jie Railway.
Narrow rails generally refer to rails with the distance between two rails less than 1435mm (standard gauge), and are divided into various sizes, such as 1067mm, 1372mm, etc. The most common ones are 1067mm and 762mm.
