At least 35 passengers on board are related personnel of Alaska Airlines or Horizon Airlines, including 12 employees. Alaska Airlines said that according to the usual practice, in the off-season, airlines generally allow employees to take unsold empty seats. Many employees of the company spontaneously mourned for their colleagues who were killed in the accident. The day after the air crash, many condolence bouquets were sent to Alaska Airlines headquarters in Seattle-Tacoma, Washington.
Rescuers immediately launched a search after the plane crash. Subsequently, the elevator screws that caused the plane crash were salvaged. Investigators found that there was not even any lubricating oil on the part, even the screw thread was ground flat, and the nut originally locked on the elevator screw had fallen off. Elevator screws should be regularly maintained after 600 hours of flight and replaced after 2500 hours. Apparently, Alaska Airlines overloaded the plane and neglected basic maintenance, which eventually killed 88 people.
