Oil tanker, commonly known as oil tanker, refers to a liquid cargo carrier carrying bulk oil or refined oil. In a broad sense, it refers to ships that transport all kinds of oil in bulk, in addition to oil, they also transport petroleum products, various animal and vegetable oils, liquid natural gas, liquefied petroleum gas and so on. But the so-called oil tankers mostly refer to ships that transport crude oil. A ship carrying refined oil is called a refined oil ship. Ships carrying liquefied natural gas and liquefied petroleum gas are called liquefied gas ships.
In addition to oil tanks and pipelines, oil tankers are also equipped with boilers, propellers, generators, pumps (the loading and unloading pumps on large oil tankers can pump tens of thousands of tons of liquid per hour) and fire extinguishing devices.
At present, all tankers loaded with flammable liquids are filled with nonflammable gas to prevent the danger of combustion or explosion. These noncombustible gases crowd out the oxygen-containing air, leaving almost no oxygen in the empty fuel tank of the tanker. Some ships use the waste gas discharged by the ship's own power mechanism to extract the above non-combustible gas, while others fill the non-combustible gas from the dock when unloading.
The pump used by the tanker when unloading is directly placed on the ship. Today's oil tankers, like almost all other ocean-going ships, are equipped with cargo computers, which can monitor the loading and unloading of goods and calculate all the forces on board during loading and unloading.
