Is plastic wrap poisonous?

PVC (polyvinyl chloride) cling film contains carcinogens, which is harmful to human body. Recently, some media in Shanghai and other places reported that a large number of cancer-causing PVC food preservative films from Japan and South Korea entered China. This news has attracted the attention of relevant state departments. Yesterday morning, the reporter visited some supermarkets in Xi 'an, which sold and used plastic wrap in large quantities, and found that most plastic wrap for household food was made of safe PE (polyethylene) material, so consumers could buy it with confidence.

Rest assured, the supermarket sells PE plastic wrap.

In supermarkets such as Renren Lego Store, Trust-Mart Xiaozhai Store and Le Jia, the reporter saw in the sales area of household food plastic wrap that nearly ten brands of food plastic wrap (bags) were basically marked with "PE material" and non-toxic labels. These products are basically from Shanghai, Jiangsu and other places, and the prices are mostly around 3 yuan. In addition, in a supermarket with a light path, the reporter also saw a plastic wrap without labeling materials. However, in several supermarkets visited by reporters, no PVC cling films announced by the media in Mitsubishi and Sanrong were found.

The plastic wrap on the market is mostly made of PVC, PE and PVDC. "Plastic wrap is divided into toxic and non-toxic. At present, PE and PVDC are relatively safe. " Wang, director of the Plastic Testing Center of Shanghai Plastics Research Institute, said in an interview with the media.

Most experts believe that PVC food preservative film is harmful to human body. The harmful substances in this kind of plastic wrap are easy to separate out. After food enters the human body, it has carcinogenic effect on the human body, especially interfering with human endocrine, causing female breast cancer, newborn birth defects, male reproductive disorders and even mental illness. The United States, Japan, South Korea and other countries have already completely banned the use of PVC food preservative film. PE plastic wrap for home use is safe.

Worried about supermarket plastic wrap, unknown identity

What will happen to the plastic wrap used in supermarkets? In several large supermarkets, the reporter found that vegetables, fruits, fresh food, cooked food and other products are packaged with plastic wrap, and many packages have better transparency, so you can clearly see the food inside. At the same time, the plastic wrap was placed on the counter and no material identification was seen. "Plastic wrap is purchased from above, and we just use it." Many supermarket staff say so. They said that they didn't know what kind of material the plastic wrap used belonged to.

In the cooked food area of a supermarket on Chang 'an South Road, a staff member took out a big bag of plastic wrap for packing cooked food. The reporter saw that there was no material mark on the package, and there were obviously Japanese letters, which were produced by Liyan Food Packaging (Jiangsu) Co., Ltd. According to the staff, this kind of plastic wrap is currently being used in supermarkets. Some supermarkets refused to provide reporters with the outer packaging logo of plastic wrap.

Pay attention to fire prevention and distinguish PVC from PE.

"I have always had doubts about the plastic wrap on the cooked food in the supermarket. Will this be unhealthy? But I still feel very clean. " Consumer Mr. Lei said. During the interview, many consumers were unaware of this situation. They said that because it is difficult to distinguish whether it is harmful or not, they still buy this packaged food cautiously.

According to media reports, PVC cling film is more transparent, stretchable and sticky than PE cling film. When PVC cling film is on fire, the flame is black, smoky and pungent, and will not drip oil, and will automatically go out after leaving the fire source. When PE cling film burns, the flame is yellow, tasteless and dripping with oil, and it can continue to burn after leaving the fire source. "If the label is made of PVC or the label is unknown, consumers are advised to be cautious." A packaging expert said.
