What does CGG mean?

CGG is the abbreviation of General Physics Company. The company was established in 193 1. In 2007, it acquired VeritasDGC and changed its name to CGGVeritas (French Geophysical Veridas Company). On March 20 13, all the earth science departments of Frugo company were acquired and renamed CGG at the beginning of its establishment. At present, the company is the largest geophysical and geoscience service company in the world, integrating equipment manufacturing (Sercel), acquisition, processing and imaging, oil reservoir and multi-customers. The company first entered the energy exploration market in China on 1964, and it has remained so far.

CGG, which is often mentioned in China, usually refers to the company's famous professional software system for seismic data processing, imaging and reservoir analysis. This software has made outstanding contributions to the development of seismic exploration data processing in China energy industry, because the French geophysical company sold this industrial standard software together with the source program to China in the 1970s, which played an important role in China's self-made technology and subsequent independent development in this field. If you are interested, you can find a series of lectures on the anatomy report of CGG software source program in the magazine Petroleum Geophysical Exploration.

In fact, CGG software has a specific name. According to the software user manual, the earliest generation was GOS, then GeoMax, then GeoMaster in the 1970s and 1980s, GeoVecteur and GeoVecteurPlus in the 1990s, GeoCluster in the 20th century, and geovation introduced by 20 10, with more than 550 modules and interactive application tools. CGG also has well-known and widely used reservoir inversion software Jason and Hampson-Russell, which are used in later M&A and acquisition fields.
