South day farm used to be a farm with rubber as its main industry, and the rubber planting area reached more than 70,000 mu at its peak. In the 1990s, affected by the typhoon, a large area of rubber forest on the farm was destroyed, and the farm became one of the top ten loss-making enterprises in the national agricultural reclamation and the first of the five poor farms in Hainan agricultural reclamation. The painful lesson tells us that it is difficult to resist the dual challenges of natural risks and market risks by eating "rubber rice" alone, and it is impossible to make workers and the masses rich. Therefore, from the end of 1992, on the basis of careful analysis of the advantages and disadvantages of farm land, climate and location, the management policy of "market-oriented, benefit-oriented, resource-based, total output and industrial structure benefit" was established, and the management mode of "cutting into pieces, contracting at different levels, invigorating individual business, grasping public security, adjusting industries and developing economy" was adopted. After years of development, South day farm has formed a new industrial pattern of "one city and five places". "One City" is an international tropical tourist city of Nantian Hot Spring in Sanya, the first spring in China, with an area of 10 square kilometers. The "five places" are 30,000 mu of rubber base, 3,000 mu of high-tech tropical agricultural breeding base, 40,000 mu of high-quality mango demonstration base, 8,000 mu of pollution-free off-season melons and vegetables base and agricultural and sideline products processing base. Through the adjustment of industrial structure, the single industrial structure dominated by rubber has been changed for a long time, and the economic structure has been diversified, which has laid a solid economic foundation for the sustainable development of farms and the continuous improvement of workers' lives.
