After beginning of winter, there was no cold wind in the capital, and the sunshine in winter was warm and peaceful. My friends and I made an appointment to go to Miao Feng again, just because the day of closing the mountain was getting closer and closer. Just like the route five days ago, I climbed all the way along the winding and rugged Panshan Road, heard the singing of birds until the top of the mountain, and returned home many times. Miao Feng Mountain is about 1200m above sea level. The vegetation on the top of the mountain is not dense, and the branches wither and fall. The target birds of this trip are the gray shrike, the small owl with longitudinal stripes, the leading rock harrier and the red-browed suzaku. During the nearly five hours of bird catching, there were no traces of gray shrike and lead rock owl, and the common red-bellied and red-tailed owls in mountainous areas disappeared without a trace. The little owl with a longitudinal abdomen only saw one flying back. Just when we were walking along Panshan Road, we were discouraged. Two huge black raptors floated above the front hillside, which should have risen from the valley behind the hillside with the help of airflow. Everyone got excited at once, regardless of the turbulence and backlight, shouting the names of various sculptures and constantly pressing the shutter. The third, fourth, fifth and sixth ones gradually came into our sight, and we didn't know that they were six vultures until we saw the huge white hooked mouths in the landscape. Vultures are also very powerful, hovering over us for a week before slowly disappearing.
Vultures are the largest birds of prey on the plateau. After spreading its wings, its wingspan is about 2 meters long and 0.6 meters wide (the largest can reach more than 3 meters). It mainly feeds on the carcasses of large animals and other rotting animals, and is a resident bird in Northeast China, North China, Northwest China and Northwest Sichuan. It is often found in Dushi Mountain area of Beijing that Miaofeng Mountain is not on the migration route of raptors, and this time it is rare to see a group of six vultures.
The species of birds we saw that day were peregrine falcon, kestrel, ring-necked pheasant, rock sole, three-browed grass sole, mountain owl, red-browed rosefinch, finch, brown-headed tit, red-billed blue magpie, vulture and so on. The following photos are selected for this trip, thank you for your appreciation!
